Top Lures for Catching Tuna

Below are several lures that are popular when fishing for tuna:

- Squid rigs: These soft plastic lures are available in a wide range of colors. However, natural colors such as off white and light brown are some of the most popular choices. Anglers can run squid rigs on their own or as part of a group and can choose lures ranging from 11 to 17 inches in length.

- Cedar plugs: A reliable lure for catching tuna, cedar plugs were originally used by commercial fishermen. They are simple lures and consist of a painted piece of cedar wood or wood soaked in menhaden oil to add scent. Similar to squid rigs, cedar plugs can be used as a single lure or hooked up to a spreader bar.

- Feather lures: When tuna are feeling fussy, a feather lure may entice them to bite when other lures have failed. Made from colorful feathers and acrylic heads, most manufacturers suggest using a blue purple and black or blue and white lure when fishing for tuna. However, some anglers have also had success using green and yellow feathers.
